We acknowledge their Elders past, present and emerging, and support the concepts of voice, treaty, and truth in the Uluru Statement from the Heart. Message from the President: Uluru Statement from the Heart and the Voice to Parliament referendum Australia ICOMOS resolved to support the Uluru Statement from the Heart at its Annual General Meeting of 15 November 2019, noting its commitment to truth telling, constitutional reforms and to establish a First Nations’ Voice to Parliament. The 2023 referendum to establish this Voice is an historic moment for Australia. Australia ICOMOS acknowledges that there are different views about the proposed referendum and the Voice within its membership, as in the broader community, and encourages respectful dialogue about this, particularly in relation to the protection of First Nations cultural heritage and to the recognition of the indivisible nature of people, knowledge, place and Country. In recognition of these commitments, the Office Bearers of Australia ICOMOS affirm their support for the Uluru Statement from the Heart and for a ‘Yes’ vote in the Voice to Parliament referendum. This seems especially important at a time when reforms of cultural heritage laws are planned. Australia ICOMOS recognises that the Voice is only one part of wider aspirations by First Nations peoples.
